The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has urged members of the public to avoid responding to suspicious phone calls or text messages that purport to be from official entities but may be attempts to commit cybercrime. The advisory was posted on the ministry’s official X account on Wednesday evening as part of broader efforts to safeguard privacy and prevent fraud.
In its notice, the MoI cautioned against interacting with unknown links or requests for personal information received via unsolicited calls or messages.
Officials warned that such communications often misuse the names of official institutions in Qatar to deceive recipients and trick them into revealing sensitive data.
The ministry emphasized that legitimate government agencies do not request personal details or private information through unverified messages or calls.
It encouraged the public to verify any suspect communication through recognised official channels before sharing any information.
Authorities also stressed the importance of not opening unfamiliar links embedded in messages, as these could be used to install malware or harvest credentials.
The MoI reiterated that vigilance and caution are essential to protect individuals from falling victim to scams that exploit current circumstances.
This advisory aligns with recent communications urging residents and citizens in Qatar to rely solely on official sources for updates and to refrain from engaging with unverified content circulating online and through mobile networks.
