Over Memorial Day weekend, tragedy struck the Xavier High School and St. Ambrose communities. Seventeen-year-old Jacob Hackle was critically injured in a car accident and airlifted to Milwaukee. As word spread, prayers flooded in from friends, teachers, classmates, and even complete strangers.

A miracle was requested by Grand Chute Baseball. St. Ambrose Academy prayed that a devout woman named Adele Bryce would assist bring Jacob back and appealed for immediate intercession.

The news that crushed hearts throughout Wisconsin was revealed by Jacob’s mother, Gina, on the evening of May 27, 2025: Jacob genuinely loved Jesus more than anything. He died quietly at 10:40 p.m. and is now sleeping in His arms.

At Appleton’s St. Pius X Catholic Church, more than 700 people attended mass and the recitation of the rosary. They came to support the Hackle family and to pray, weep, and grieve. We all suffer when one component fails.
Jacob is survived by his loving parents, Gina and Scott, and his siblings Aiden, Grace, Luke, El Rose, and Clare. They ask for your continued prayers, love, and privacy as they navigate this deep loss.
