In a world filled with questions, Ryan Hunter Moes was someone always searching for answers—about science, about faith, about life itself. But on May 28th, 2025, that search came to a heartbreaking end.
Only a few days prior, Ryan had flown to San Antonio to witness his younger sister’s graduation. A proud brother who was always there for those he cared about. On the morning of Sunday, May 25th, he was last known to have spoken to his father.
His red 2005 Ford Sport Trac was discovered towed and abandoned from Emma Long Metropolitan Park, west of Austin, a few days later. In their never-ending quest for Ryan, family, friends, and volunteers searched Austin’s parks, trailheads, and neighborhoods.
Missing 23-Year-Old Ryan Motes Found
Jeff Moes, his father, never gave up hope and made fervent appeals for assistance. Through the suffering, Deborah, his mother, prayed for God to keep her son safe and to protect everyone who was assisting in his search.
And then came the update no one wanted. On May 28th, Ryan Hunter Moes was found—but not alive. At just 23 years old, his life came to an end—and with it, a future filled with promise, potential, and curiosity.
“My sweet Ryan is home free today,” his mother posted. He no longer experiences inward suffering or pain. I can’t express how much I miss him.
In a message of grief and faith, his father wrote: “Ryan was incredibly intelligent, entertaining, and inquisitive. When I depart from this world as well, I hope to see you again. Right now, kid, I feel a little envious of you.”
Ryan wasn’t simply absent. A son, a brother, a friend, a bright mind with an old soul, he was adored, well-known, and greatly missed.
As they attempt to come to terms with the unimaginable, the Moes family has requested prayers for courage, compassion, and serenity. Their lives will never be the same.
May his journey continue in peace.
May his soul be surrounded by love.
And may those left behind be lifted by the same love that carried Ryan home.
