Qatar has announced the expulsion of key Iranian diplomatic officials, declaring the military and security attach\u00e9s at the Iranian Embassy in Doha \u201cpersona non grata\u201d following recent attacks targeting the country\u2019s strategic infrastructure.<\/p>\n
In an official statement issued on March 18, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that both attach\u00e9s, along with their staff, have been ordered to leave the country within 24 hours.<\/p>\n
The decision was formally conveyed during a meeting between Qatar\u2019s Director of Protocol Ibrahim Yousif Fakhro and Iran\u2019s Ambassador to Doha.<\/p>\n
Qatari authorities described the move as a direct response to what they called repeated Iranian aggression against the country.<\/p>\n
The ministry stated that these actions constituted a clear violation of Qatar\u2019s sovereignty and security, as well as a breach of international law and established principles of good neighbourly relations.<\/p>\n
Officials emphasized that the expulsion reflects one of the strongest diplomatic measures taken by Doha amid escalating regional tensions. The government also warned that further hostile actions could prompt additional countermeasures to safeguard national interests.<\/p>\n
Linked to Ras Laffan Attack<\/strong><\/p>\n The diplomatic escalation comes shortly after Iranian missile strikes targeted Qatar\u2019s Ras Laffan Industrial City, a critical hub for global liquefied natural gas (LNG) production. The attack reportedly caused fires and significant damage to facilities, heightening concerns over energy security in the region.<\/p>\n Qatar strongly condemned the strike, describing it as a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to both national and regional stability. Authorities reiterated their long-standing position against targeting civilian and energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n
