Stone Roses<\/a>\u00a0bassist Gary \u201cMani<\/a>\u201d Mounfield, who played the iconic opening notes on the Manchester band\u2019s 1989 hit \u201cI Wanna Be Adored\u201d and later joined\u00a0Primal Scream<\/a>, has died. He was 63.<\/p>\n

BBC News reported<\/a>\u00a0that Mounfield\u2019s brother, Greg Mounfield, announced his death on\u00a0Facebook<\/a>. \u201cIt is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce the sad passing of my brother. RIP RKID,\u201d Greg wrote. The cause of death was not disclosed.<\/p>\n

Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown also mourned\u00a0Mounfield\u2019s death on X<\/a>, writing: \u201cREST IN PEACE MANi X.\u201d Oasis singer Liam Gallagher added, \u201cIn total shock and absolutely devastated on hearing the news about Mani. My hero, RIP R Kid.<\/p>\n

Mounfield joined the Stone Roses in 1987 at the peak of the \u201cMadchester\u201d wave, playing with them on both of their albums \u2014 \u201cThe Stone Roses\u201d (1989) and \u201cSecond Coming\u201d (1994) \u2014 before the band split up in 1996. After the Stone Roses disbanded, Mounfield joined Scottish rockers Primal Scream and was a full time member of the band until 2011.<\/p>\n

Throughout the years, Mounfield was the biggest advocate out of his fellow Stone Roses for the band to get back together. He left Primal Scream in 2011 so that the Stone Roses could reunite, playing a string of shows and festival dates \u2014 including at London\u2019s Wembley Stadium and Coachella in California \u2014 before disbanding once again in 2017.<\/p>\n

Mounfield was planning to tour the U.K. next year for a series of \u201cin conversation\u201d appearances, in which he was set to recount memories from his time with the Stone Roses and Primal Scream.<\/p>\n

He is preceded in death by his wife Imelda, who died of bowel cancer in 2023, and survived by their twin sons.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
