Manchester United opened their post-season tour with a 1-0 defeat to the ASEAN All-Stars at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Malaysia on Wednesday evening.
Maung Maung Lwin’s goal in the second half gave the ASEAN All-Stars XI a historic victory in the scorching Malaysian city of Kuala Lumpur.
In front of over 72,000 fans in Kuala Lumpur, United, who seldom ever put Patiwait Khammai in the All-Stars’ goal, did not perform as head coach Ruben Amorim would have liked.
Amorim gave 27 players chances, and Altay Bayindir was the only player from the matchday squad who did not take the field. A number of young players, including Jack Moorhouse and Reece Munro, who both began, received valuable minutes.
Elsewhere, Alejandro Garnacho came on at half-time and played the whole of the second half. The likes of Bruno Fernandes, Chido Obi and Amad also came on at half-time after starting on the bench.

We will catch you again on Friday for the second game of United’s post-season tour.Manchester United’s season was not bookended by silverware, after all. After the Snapdragon Cup in pre-season, the Maybank Cup eluded them in the post-season tour.
Neither would ever be housed in the Old Trafford museum or featured as attractions for picture opportunities as part of the stadium tour. Ruben Amorim looked uncomfortable enough to be standing behind the Maybank Cup at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference.
Amorim found himself in a precarious situation. He would have shuddered to lift a trophy not worthy of a Sunday League final, but United lost in a nation they hadn’t been to since Michael Owen’s debut there in July 2009.
Friendly matches have all the characteristics of unwatchable exhibition matches, and they can be a good way to treat insomnia.
